Construction Protocols
How do I know if I am eligible to volunteer?

Read through our Waiver Addendum to determine whether you should volunteer with us. If you are unsure, we advise consulting your health care provider prior to volunteering for Habitat.

What precautions has Habitat Metro Denver taken to ensure safety and sanitation for volunteers?

Habitat Metro Denver is following the recommended safety and sanitation practices as outlined by the CCD. These include but are not limited to:

  • providing handwashing stations on the construction sites;
  • providing hand sanitizer and disinfectant wipes;
  • properly disinfecting all tools and safety equipment (hard hats, safety glasses);
  • limiting the number of volunteers and people on construction sites to follow proper social distancing measures (six feet of distance or more) ;
  • requiring all volunteers and staff to wear face masks at all times while on-site; and
  • asking volunteers and staff that have any symptoms or have been in contact with anyone with symptoms of COVID-19 to refrain from volunteering/working. See our waiver.
What safety practices must I follow as a volunteer?

Each site has specific safety protocols in place to keep the workplace sanitary and safe:

What do I need to bring?
  • A sack lunch
  • A water bottle and enough water for your whole shift (Water may not be available on site.)
  • Sunscreen
  • Your own mask
    Current CDC guidelines recommend cloth face coverings. N-95 masks or surgical masks are not necessary, as those are critical supplies that should continue to be reserved for health care workers and other medical first responders.
  • Gloves

Optional items include:

  • An OSHA-approved hard hat, safety glasses and gloves
    All volunteers are required to wear a hard hat and safety glasses, but we provide them on site. Gloves are optional and available on site. You can provide your own if preferred.
  • A tool belt and hand tools labeled with your name
    Please do not bring your own power tools.

What do I need to bring?
  • A sack lunch (if working the moring shift, or all day)
  • A water bottle
  • Gloves
What should I wear?

The ReStore is a warehouse environment, and volunteers should dress appropriately. Volunteers must wear sturdy, closed-toe shoes (tennis shoes are fine, but no Crocs or flip-flops). Dress is casual with a t-shirt and jeans, or t-shirt and shorts in the summer.

Volunteers are required to bring and wear their own masks. Current CDC guidelines recommend cloth face coverings. N-95 masks or surgical masks are not necessary, as those are critical supplies that should continue to be reserved for health care workers and other medical first responders.

The ReStores can be dirty and dusty, so chances are you will leave here less pristine than when you came!
