Meet Tanya and Her Family
June 11, 2015
After 12 years of renting with no sign of homeownership in sight, Denver-native Tanya and her two daughters are thrilled to have the opportunity to move into an affordable, safe home this year. Working the same job for the past 14 years, Tanya knows the value of dedication and stability, and wishes to parallel that same stability in the lives of her daughters. “I would like to have a place where my kids and I can call ‘home’,” Tanya says with hope in her voice.
Tanya and her father have exhausted countless hours working to repair the family’s current residency, but it always seems there is more work to be done. Simple chores like doing laundry or even washing dishes are proving to be impossible because water seeps out from the walls due to faulty plumbing. The house is overwhelmingly cluttered, with storage from the landlord brimming out of all available spaces and eliminating any sense of ‘home’. Even worse, Tanya’s daughters cannot play outside because of high crime rates in the neighborhood, creating an unhealthy environment for the family. All of these issues along with an increasing rent make it impossible for the family to remain there.
Tanya learned about Habitat Metro Denver from a friend and is excited to partner with Habitat to finally make the dream of owning her own home an attainable reality. “This is such a wonderful thing to have happened to us,” Tanya humbly shared.
She has visited the future site of her house several times and is looking forward to living in a community where her daughters are free to run and play outside. The location will provide a good commute for both Tanya’s work and her kids’ schools. Tanya is particularly excited to test her design talent by adorning the rooms with her own belongings and to add her unique style to the house.
Tanya is overwhelmed with gratitude towards all of the supporters helping to build her new house and looks forward to working side-by-side with them to build a safe, stable, and affordable home for her young family.
