Meet Future Homeowner: Trisha

April 26, 2021

Trisha is a motivated mom who wants to show her children that by working hard, anything is possible.

Trisha and her two daughters, ages 12 and 5, moved to Denver from Oklahoma City three years ago for a job opportunity with the Department of Veteran Affairs. Trisha has been grateful that her job allows her to work a hybrid remote / in-person schedule during the pandemic. This flexibility has proved very helpful since her daughters have been also doing remote learning this past year.

"It’s been okay," shares Trisha. "But it can get overwhelming with nowhere to go. COVID hit one year after we moved here and it’s been very limiting."

Trisha and her daughters had been living in a stable apartment rental since first moving to Denver, but the landlord decided to sell the property earlier this year and gave them only 30 days' notice to vacate.

"It was devastating with everything else going on with kids and work," shares Trisha. They were able to quickly find another 2-bedroom apartment, but it’s less than ideal with noisy neighbors who are up at all hours of the night.

Trisha knows that life will become more stable once she becomes a homeowner with Habitat this year. She recalls having to move quite a few times in her childhood, and is excited to be able to provide her family with the stability and security that comes with owning a home. Trisha wants to set a good example for her children and show them that they can do anything they set their minds to. In addition to working a full-time job, Trisha is also a first-generation college graduate and is currently working towards her second college degree.

"It’s a big accomplishment to become a homeowner and be able to invest in my home and my daughters," shares Trisha. "We can finally have something that we can call our own."
