Making a difference – Meet ReStore Volunteer Bill Ryan

“I’m a Core Volunteer because I make a difference in my community by helping Habitat provide safe, affordable housing for families.  So many of those families come back and volunteer themselves.  What could be more important?”

Bill began volunteering with Habitat on the construction and deconstruction teams back in 2005. A dedicated volunteer, he has since been volunteering at the Littleton ReStore twice a week for 4 years, testing appliance functionality. He enjoys the fellowship of working with staff and other volunteers.

The mission of building homes alongside Habitat families resonated strongly with Bill from the beginning. When working on his first Habitat construction site, he remembered meeting and working alongside the family who would be purchasing the home. “I got to see what a difference it was making in their lives,” he recalled. “I thought that this is somewhere I could volunteer and know what I was doing would truly help.”

After 14 years of experience, Bill’s advice to anyone interested in volunteering is this:

“Attend just one Home Dedication and meet the families. It is one of the most rewarding experiences you will ever have. Then find something you like to do and do it.  You will never wonder if what you do makes a difference.”
