Habitat Love Connections
Feb. 14, 2018
Brady and Amanda first crossed paths when they volunteered on the same Habitat build site as young AmeriCorps members. But they didn’t officially meet until Amanda’s first day working in Habitat’s development department in 2004. “Brady happened to be in the office doing some paperwork on my first day and I immediately remembered him from my experience on the construction site years earlier,” shares Amanda. “I distinctly remember thinking to myself, ‘well, this is going to be trouble!’"
Throughout their relationship, Brady and Amanda have shared countless Habitat experiences, including travelling to Guatemala together. “We've been lucky to travel and experience the power of Habitat's Global Village work in some beautiful locations.” They’ve also both built Habitat homes in Alaska, and Amanda traveled to Nepal with a team from Denver to build earthquake resistant homes, while Brady stayed busy in Denver building one of the more than 100 homes he completed during his tenure on the construction team.
“We will always remember Habitat as the force that brought us together...working together, especially as development and construction staff, was incredibly rewarding for us,” Amanda reminisces. “I won't forget the feeling of pride I had for Brady as he stood up at those home dedication ceremonies to thank the volunteers that had worked on the homes with him and to congratulate the families on achieving the dream of homeownership for which they had worked so hard.”
“Although Brady has moved on to a new career as a nurse and I’m now raising money for Planned Parenthood, we always will recommend Habitat for Humanity as a place to meet like-minded people and maybe even find ‘your person’ like we did!”
