Congratulations Veronica

Please join us in congratulating Veronica on paying her final mortgage payment and completely owning her Habitat home as of this September!

Veronica first applied to become a Habitat homeowner in 1996.  She was a hardworking and dedicated mother of four young children – two sons, ages 3 and 6, and two daughters, ages 2 and 5.  The family of five was living in a home with no locks on the windows, problems with bugs, and no cooperation with management to make repairs.  At the time, Veronica shared “We’ve been broken into two times in the last five months.”

Veronica had big goals to be self-sufficient and knew that if she worked hard enough, she could create a better life for her family. Veronica took night classes in word-processing in order to land her first clerical job, which was followed by a job as a loan processor for a mortgage company.  These same lofty goals led her to seek more stable housing while she was living in a transitional housing program.  It was there that she discovered Habitat.

Veronica’s home was one of four houses built over the course of just 16 days during Habitat’s Summer Build ’97.  More than 2,000 volunteers helped out during the large-scale event and Veronica feels lucky to have been a part of such a unique homebuilding event.
