The Carpenter’s Helpers

The Carpenter's Helpers is a faith coalition of 18 Presbyterian churches in the Denver metro area.  We work alongside Habitat for Humanity of Metro Denver in building homes, raising funds, and creating awareness about the need for safe and affordable housing in our community.  The congregations that make up our coalition are:

Habitat Family

The Carpenter’s Helpers faith coalition is happy to be partnering with Sarmad and his family to build their new home in Globeville.

Sarmad has always been a caretaker, but with an overcrowded and increasingly unaffordable apartment, he struggles to care for his young nieces and elderly parents.  The family’s current living situation presents multiple problems for this family of five.   The faulty plumbing system has caused flooding and water damage, and they struggle with regular pest infestation in their kitchen and bedrooms.  Sarmad also worries about his nieces’ safety in the apartment complex, and feels that their neighborhood does not provide a healthy environment to raise children.  Due to lack of enough bedrooms, some family members sleep in the common area of their apartment. The lack of space makes it very hard for Sarmad to attend to both his parents’ health issues. His new Habitat home in Globeville will give the family the space they need to live healthy and happy lives again.

Sarmad has been looking for a homeownership opportunity for years, but he was always disappointed by the unaffordable closing costs and mortgage payments.  He has worked hard as an IT Technician at Dish Network to be able to provide a better life for his nieces and parents; he feels that his hard work and dedication has opened the door for him to partner with Habitat Metro Denver.   Sarmad is so excited to move into his new home on Pennsylvania Street and believes that it is a perfect fit for his family. The single story design of the home will allow his parents to move about freely, and the extra space will give his nieces’ more privacy and room to play.  Sarmad’s willingness to partner with Habitat has been evident from the beginning. He has already worked with his supervisor at work to ensure that he can fulfill his sweat equity hours in time, and he is thankful for his employers’ support during this exciting time of his life.
