support housing

Advocacy

Together, we can make a difference on our city’s toughest housing challenges.

In Metro Denver, 1 in 4 households are burdened by housing costs. Too many of our neighbors are on the verge of losing their homes due to rising rents. And many more have to make extremely difficult financial decisions for themselves and their families, because of the high cost of housing.

Join us in advocating for policies that support affordable homeownership in Metro Denver.

What Habitat Supports

In Metro Denver and nationwide

We Support Policies that make Affordable Homeownership Possible

Here are the kinds of policies that Habitat Metro Denver supports to increase affordable homeownership opportunities in our communities. Look for these themes when reviewing your ballot and community initiatives.
  • Supply and preservation – We support state and local affordable housing funds that are dedicated to affordable homeownership development and preservation.
  • Access to credit – We support down payment and mortgage assistance programs, affordable mortgages and housing counseling for low-income families.
  • Zoning and land use – We ask local city council representatives how multi-family developments could bring affordable, decent homes to your neighborhood and enrich the area. Support multi-family developments that allow the building of duplexes, townhomes, accessory dwelling units (ADUs), and other plans that maximize space and affordability for hardworking families.
  • Broad economic mobility – We support policies that help more people gain access to neighborhoods that are safe, include good schools, and have access to healthy food and transportation.
