Sandra's Story

The Soto family moved into their four bedroom home in June 2001 and it changed the trajectory of all of their lives. “Knowing my mother and siblings had a safe and stable place to call home alleviated so much stress for me.” Sandra’s oldest son Miguel shares, “I was able to focus on my studies without worrying if the rest of my family would be alright.” Shortly after moving in, Miguel was able to go to college at Fort Lewis College in Durango then later earned his degree in Business Management from Metro State University.

Sandra’s three youngest children are all thriving as well.  Her daughters Elvia and Jessica have both gone on to earn college degrees.  Now both married and living in their own homes, they always consider their Habitat house as “home”. Ivan, Sandra’s youngest son has graduated high school and is passionate about his family and cooking. “I love having everyone over to my mom’s house and being able to cook together. We have made so many memories in that home that I will never forget,” shares Ivan.

Over the past 18 years of homeownership, Sandra and her children have not lost sight of what truly matters. “We all have experienced love and hope here in this home that we built together.” Sandra continues, “We owe a lot to Habitat and thank everyone including volunteers, donors, and sponsors who have all contributed to this organization that has changed my family’s lives forever.”
