Meet Some of Habitat's Current Partner Families
Habitat for Humanity builds and sells quality housing to low-income families who need a safe, decent and affordable place to call home. Our program is not just about building houses, it's about giving families in need a stable foundation from which they can grow and thrive.
Habitat believes that a home can transform lives, restore hope, and cast a lasting light into communities for generations to come. Enjoy reading these stories about local partner families who are just beginning their journey towards homeownership with Habitat for Humanity of Metro Denver.

Wendy “I'm living to my fullest potential."
Wendy, a Denver native, is looking forward to the changes that will come when she becomes the proud owner of her new Habitat home in a quiet Golden neighborhood. Currently, she works as a server at a local diner and lives in an unsafe and uncomfortable apartment. Her home has had break-in attempts and has come with a series of heating and plumbing issues. Last winter, because of faulty heating, Wendy had to use her oven to warm her apartment. Seeking a sense of safety and stability in her Habitat home, Wendy will soon be able to focus more on her bright future. She looks forward to continuing her volunteer work cutting hair for the homeless and she is even considering going back to school. Wendy is thrilled to begin construction on her home in January and can’t wait to meet all of the volunteers and sponsors who are helping her achieve this dream. ___________________________________________________
Tabatha "My kids will never have to worry about having a roof over their heads."
Tabatha never thought that she would one day be able to own her own home. She and her five children have struggled to find clean and safe housing with adequate space for years. After residing in a hotel for some time, the family now lives in a house with only two available bedrooms and a spider infestation in the basement. Tabatha first heard about Habitat in 2009 and since then has worked extra hard to raise her income in order to qualify for the program. She has spent her sweat equity hours speaking before legislature and working at the ReStores. She has also attended several dedications where she enjoys watching homeowners’ faces when a house becomes theirs. Tabatha and her kids are excited to have their own rooms and paint them in their favorite colors. They are so thankful to the donors and volunteers who are helping make homeownership a reality for them. ___________________________________________________
Josue and Elizabeth "Homeownership means more security, stability and having your own home."
When looking for a home for their 16-month old son, safety was not something Josue and Elizabeth were willing to compromise. Because of this, nearly half of the monthly income Josue earns from his two jobs goes toward rent on a one bedroom apartment in a safer neighborhood. The family had been forced to move frequently to avoid rising rent costs until they discovered Habitat through Josue’s parents who are Habitat homeowners themselves. They were immediately accepted to the program and Josue, who learned some building skills from his father, has already begun construction on his new home. The family is looking forward to having a more affordable rent, as well as space for their son to play outside. They are happy and grateful to finally have a stable home for their son to grow up in.
